EZ-USB® HX3PD: USB 3.1 Gen 2 Hub with Power Delivery

EZ-USB® HX3PD is the industry's first 7-port USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Hub with Power Delivery, supporting two Type-C+PD ports (one upstream and one downstream), and five downstream USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. HX3PD is Cypress's most integrated USB 3.1 Gen 2 hub, integrating five chips (2x 4-port USB hubs, two USB PD controllers, Dock Management Controller) into one, reducing BOM cost and solution footprint, making it ideal for USB Type-C dongles, docks and monitors. HX3PD's configurable SuperSpeed and USB 2.0 PHY improves signal quality, giving board designers more flexibility and making USB-IF compliance easier.

USB Type-C Specification

USB Type-C is the new USB-IF standard that solves several challenges faced by today's Type-A and Type-B cables and connectors. USB Type-C uses a slimmer connector (measuring only 2.4-mm in height) to allow for increasing miniaturization of consumer and industrial products. The specification allows for fully reversible plugs and enables transport of both USB signals and PCIe or DisplayPort signals on the same connector. The Type-C specification aslo increases the power delivery capability from 7.5 W to 100 W.
